Oh, Those High School Dances Bloghop

Before everybody freaks out looking at the pictures because I look so OLD, just know that yes, I'm too old for high school in these pictures. I'm in college. Kelley let me cheat because I grew up in Hong Kong and my schools didn't have homecomings or proms.

So this is college. And that's my dashingly handsome sidekick (DHS) back in the days when he looked like a little boy. He wasn't quite as dashingly handsome as he is now, but that's how it is with the best men. They're like good wine ... they improve with age.

But he is awfully cute, isn't he?

I'm ashamed to admit this, but these are the only pictures I could find of myself going to a dance. I talked about posting pictures from middle school and elementary school days (long before I met the DHS), but when it came down to it, I couldn't unearth any of those pictures. They are so ancient history they must require excavation.

So, college will have to do.

I'm also ashamed to say that I have no recollection of this dance. I don't even know what year it was. I think the dance perhaps was at Union Station in downtown Tacoma (which is beautifully decorated with Chihuly glass), but I have no idea where we ate, who we went with, or if the DJ was any good. I probably danced like a crazy person, ditched the heels, removed the nylons in the bathroom, and had a blast, but ... that's based on how I typically act at dances, not based, unfortunately, on memory.
But I clearly went to it, and so did a bunch of my friends and housemates. Because here we are (above, not below ... obviously). Our shoes definitely ROCK. Chunky heels 4ever.

The only thing I actually remember about this night is getting ready for it. (Lame.)

See, I splurged and went to a makeup counter in a department store and got a free makeover. Whoo-hoo! (I think I may have had to buy a tube of mascara to get the makeover, so maybe it wasn't technically free.) As you can see in both the pictures, I'm heavily make-upped. So much so that I hardly felt like myself and was dying all night to come home and take the stuff off my face.

That's all I've got. I'm a disappointment to the bloghop, I'm sure, but I mainly wanted to participate so I could boogy around to all the other bloghop blogs and laugh at their awesome stories and rad photos and feel like part of "the gang."

(I'm at Disneyland and my brother's wedding this week! Can you believe I still pulled off this post? Phew!)

  1. It's hard when you feel like what you're wearing, even if it is just make-up, doesn't let you get comfortable!

  2. Too much fun & you are a stunner! So pretty.

I'd be scared to post any pics from my h.s. dances. And I'm the opposite, I remember *too* much. Oy. Good to be grown.

  4. Beautiful! I have no dance pictures either. Never went to one in high school or college. And my husband didn't care to dance. I did manage to make him try out swing dance when we were living in Belgium and it was a blast.

  5. Funny how some things seem so important at the time but later we rarely remember them.

    Have fun in Disneyland!

  9. I love your description of ditching the heels and the nylons. I did that stuff too. I think your story is just right, even if the details are hazy.

  10. I really don't remember much about my dances either--hence the lack of funny stories. I remember the dresses and those of my friends though, probably only due to pictures.

  13. You haven't aged at all!! What are you talking about? Is that a cheongsam-inspired dress you're wearing in the group photo? It's gorgeous. I try to wear cheongsams whenever I can (in the US, of course). And for the record, I only went to one dance in high school and didn't even know my date.

  16. I love looking at old pictures. You and your husband look adorable together! I don't really have any dance pictures either. There's a shot of my husband and I at prom (before we were married. Lol) but that's about it!

  20. Ah the debate... to get the makeup done, or not get it done. I'm glad you mentioned the whole "not feeling like yourself" thing. My wedding is coming up and no one understands why I want to do my makeup myself.

  21. I usually ditch the high heels, too. Though, I've never worn nylons, lol.

    Awesome pictures!
