thought I'd share embarrassing pictures from my past just to show you how much I appreciate my husband.
Here I am in middle school.
NERD! with gigantic bushy hair.
And here I am at the beginning of high school with my completely adorable (non-nerdy) friends...
NERD! again.
I'm attempting to look sexy but attracting NO ONE. (Those are our summer uniforms, in case you're curious.)
And here is my fourth form (9th grade) class photo in which we model our winter uniforms.
Can you see me in there? Don't strain your eyes. I'm the NERD in the sweater vest in the front row, the only one who thought it was cool in the middle of winter not to wear socks. (Maybe I thought my bushy hair would keep me warm?)
Here I am, about to leave for COLLEGE and I'm still a nerd. Quite possibly nerdier than before. Yes, I'm the only girl who, when the photographer yelled, "CRAZY FACE!" actually made a crazy face.
NERD!
Then I head off to college.
And somehow, against all odds, I end up dating this:
A guy who probably should be a male model and is the complete opposite of a nerd. Funny how life turns out sometimes, isn't it?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my COOL, Dashingly Handsome Sidekick!
(Thank you for accepting the nerd in me!)
*Don't ask me why I think embarrassing myself on my blog will make my husband happy on his birthday. Don't tell anyone, but I think he kind of likes that I'm a nerd ... deep down.*
A big thank you to Vicki Rocho who hosted the Well I Never blogfest! You can find links to all the other Well I Never blogfest participants by clicking >>here<<.
What a fun blogfest! Love the pictures. They made me smile. I don't have the courage. You are a brave, brave woman. Happy birthday to your hubby.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you're a nerd! In fact back when the pics were taken, you were probably the height of fashion! You ought to take a whirl through MY photo album, I'll show you a thing about nerds...hahaha
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in the blogfest fun today and happy birthday to your dashing hubby!
Aw...so awesome! Happy b-day to your hubby. And great photos! No nerd shots there...
ReplyDeleteLove these old pics (love the bushy hair and attempts to be sexy -- LOL) and I can see totally how you ended up with your husband. A match made in heaven indeed. Happy Birthday to him.
ReplyDeleteUm, I'm still confused about the nerd part, though.
You are ADORABLE! And do is your husband!
ReplyDelete"so", not "do". :)
ReplyDeleteHi Amy .. great story line and pic ... they made me think of mine .. similar stories ... but handsome hubby - I missed out on that one ..
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday .. and sure hope you have a great day together .. cheers to the Nerd .. and Green Bathtub, one and all .. Hilary
LOL--yay! Love Wins. Vicki's such a nut. Love this blogfest, and girl! You just don't want to see my hair from back then... *snort* fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteWell Happy Bday to him!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm pretty sure we have very similar pictures... :)
I think he saw ALL of your beauty and couldn't resist.
ReplyDeleteMary
That's a fun blogfest! I have huge, bushy hair no matter what I do (though Thank GOD, it's not naturally curly to boot) and have always been self-conscious about my appearance and nerdiness. If it's any consolation, I think you're very pretty. I'm glad your hubby noticed. ;D Did you go to school together overseas? Happy Birthday to him!
ReplyDeleteHey, nerds are cool. And obviously you must be very cool to have attracted a hunk like your sweetie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the sweet comments! Life is so ironic. I was thinking this morning that if I had actually been a "cool" teenager, these pictures would have been A LOT more embarrassing because I would have been modeling the height of 90's fashion ... and you know what THAT was like!
ReplyDeleteYes, Bish is right -- NERDS RULE!
I love the old pictures! Your hair rocks! (You should have seen the teased bangs I was sporting as a kid in the late eighties/early nineties...)
ReplyDeleteAnd Amy, I hate to break it to you, but the DHS IS a science teacher. Doesn't that kind of put him in the nerd category as well (albeit the dashingly handsome one)? :)
who doesn't love a nerd? hee. and i think many of us had the bushy hair UNTIL the miraculous advent of flat irons--long may they heat. loved the photo fest!
ReplyDeleteHehe...my mother, much to my chagrin as a 12-year-old, did not believe in current styles. I am awfully thankful for that now...although I do recall wearing those terrible huge glasses that made everyone say I looked "smart"! And my husband wonders why he's seen so few pictures of me at that age...(Because I hid, dear!)
ReplyDeleteBut being a nerd is so much fun. I don't intend to ever outgrow it, even if my glasses have. :) Maybe your inner nerd, that going against the flow, is what put that gorgeous smile on your face even then!
Happy birthday to your husband!!
Happy birthday to the Dashingly Handsome Sidekick (my word, he is too!) and I love those photos of you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a creative way to utilize Vicki's blogfest. Nerd? I'm not seeing it! :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I've met you in person, Amy. How come you hair is a complete opposite to those pictures???? Please share your secrets. :D
ReplyDeleteAnd happy birthday to dashing husband side kick.
I used to date guys who looked more pregnant than I ever did. But I ended up marrying a guy with amazing abs. He still have those amazing abs (plus he's nerdy). Le Sigh.
Last weekend, Ben and I were watching Inception for the first time. About halfway through, he whispered, "One of the things I love about you is that I can watch movies like this with you, and you GET them." Yeah. They love that we're nerds. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great stroll along your memory lane ;) Well I never, you looked like no kind of nerd I went to school with. Happy Birthday to your husband.
ReplyDeleteYou look as cute as can be, and not nearly as nerdy I was at the same age! What a nice birthday shout-out to your husband.
ReplyDeleteI really like your entry, so creative! And I like that you opened up! Happy Birthday to your hubby.
ReplyDeleteHey! I like those pictures!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who falls for the 'make-a-funny-face' line in photos.
ReplyDeleteYour hubby obviously knows that beauty fades, but smarts and a spectacular sense of humor do not. (except in childbirth) *grin*
Why isn't your hair still like that? I find this incredibly disappointing and make break-up with you over it.
ReplyDeleteYou won't see me in any of my high school pictures bc my hair is over my face. I am either dressed in black or wearing Birkenstocks (yes, I had just a few identity crises in HS).
haha what fun! and my what big hair you had! :)
ReplyDeleteand no one was a bigger nerd than me, so hush up!!
OMG those pictures are AWESOME!! Nerds run the world, so there :D
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your lucky husband!
I think those are Awesome pictures of you! How cool to see you through the ages :D Where did you attend school, though? The "form" makes me think non-US ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your husband!
I'm not sure why you thought you looked nerdy. I think you looked pretty and cute in all those pictures.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to your husband!
Hi there... I saw ur KGV summrt photo and remember one of the faces... I think you were a year or two after our batch which finished KGV in 1989. So good to see those photos and relive the moments along the corridors of the old building. I always used to wonder how the cool people ended up being so at KGV (i know i definitely wasn't)... and it turns out the cool people then are ordinary now... and the unique ones like you makes the sun shine!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and making my HK days come alive again!
Anju !!
"Well I Never Blogfest!" ruins a cliff against an appalling race. A cynic sugars a painted listener. A gut sizes the thread after the zero decay. Below "Well I Never Blogfest!" beams a buyer.
ReplyDeleteI dunno -- I think you're just as pretty or prettier than the others. And I find a lot of today's hairstyles too flat and limp. Bigger will come around again, and I'll actually be kinda glad when it does.
ReplyDeleteI love the vest, Amy. I had a few of those myself:)
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with Myrna. A lot of people- myself included- look at their spouses and think- wow, how did I end up with this amazing person? You guys are totally in the same league:)
You are sooo adorable, Amy! You and your husband make a really cute couple! Love the pics!
ReplyDeleteI know your school. Fortunately, the uniforms are different now...
