So my perfectly adorable bloggy friend Janet Johnson and I got a little silly recently.
It all started with >>this post<< in which I waxed nostalgic about China and how it was so nice to be in a culture where most people had few inhibitions. I mentioned hacky sack playing in the park, and the legend goes that bloggy friend Janet made a comment about wishing American were more uninhibited, which turned into an email conversation about wishing we could play hacky sack together, which turned into Janet sending me a hacky sack in the MAIL, which turned into me sending back a hacky sack (a REAL Chinese hacky sack, purchased from a sweet little old lady sitting on the side of the road who handmade these hacky sacks and probably earned a living from them), which turned into "Wouldn't it be awesome to do a blog post about this?"
So, here we are.
The thing is, being a writer is such a solitary occupation. You and your computer. (Or you and your notebook if you're old fashioned.) But blogging gives us a chance to rub shoulders with lots of other writers. We support each other. We read each other's books. We pat each other on the back. We spread the word and promote one another's careers. And we commiserate.
Now comes icing on the cake.
WE CAN PLAY HACKY SACK TOGETHER.**
Only virtually, of course.
But still. How fun is this to have a virtual hacky sack club?
All you have to do to join the HACKY SACK CLUB is
- Steal a button from the sidebar
- Post a picture or a video of yourself playing hacky sack on your blog
Make sure to check out Janet's post, too. Her video ROCKS. Her tight exercise pants inspired my spandex.
**I love you all or I wouldn't have embarrassed myself like this.
I'm ashamed to admit this but I don't know exactly what hacky sack is. Off to google :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm quite sure I'd have zero talent with a hacky sack, but I love your idea as one to bring writers together. My writing group is a huge support!
ReplyDeleteAmy, you rock.
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally admire your amazing ability to self-disclose.
Wow.
Ha! I love it. I'll have to dig through the kids' stuff and find a hacky sack for a picture. Then I'll have to actually post on my blog, but to be a member of the hacky sack club will be totally worth it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that video of Lady Gaga by the Chinese empty-nesters. Thanks for reminding me of the good that the internet can do:)
I AM totally inhibited about how uncoordinated I am. Sigh. But maybe someday soon I'll post a video of me doing something else silly. I do love making balloon animals. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAmy, you totally Rock! But I WANT those glasses. They should be part of our official gear (along with the spandex, of course). :D
ReplyDeleteGo Hacky Sack Club!
You officially get the title as The Coolest person I know.
ReplyDeleteOh geez. Brings back memories of grade school. Never was super good at it, but I'm pretty good at juggling a soccer ball. (Sorta similar :))
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun. Let me ask my husband where our hacky sack is...
ReplyDeleteGreat moves, Amy.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Hacking Sad
Guys, Janet and I are flexible (as you can tell from our videos). I'm sure I speak for both of us when I say we can incorporate balloon animals, soccer balls and many other hidden talents into our Hacky Sack Club. We just want you all to join! :)
ReplyDeleteI am totally inhibited and uncoordinated -- I'd probably twist my ankle. I would eventually be kicked out of the club ... that can be the premise of a middle-aged novel. But you gals are cute.
ReplyDeleteHacky Sack takes so much more coordination that I am capable of. Most days, I can barely walk without tripping. I admire you though and when one of my characters hack, I am going to watch your video and see your mad skills:)
ReplyDeleteTotally flexible here. I say share any crazy talent (or future talent) you have and you're in. We're easy that way. :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha ... Thais for the giggle. I used to enjoy watching... Was so popular at a youth camp I went to in my 20s
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I laughed from the first notes of the Rocky music till the end. You're adorable! Off to check out the other video.
ReplyDeleteCatherine Denton
That was great. The warm-up preparations are key, I think. Maybe I'll just stick with those :-)
ReplyDeleteomg how cute are you?! hahaha. love it!
ReplyDeleteBe ready for the US Women Soccer Team to invite you and Janet to join them.
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I used to play hacky sack at the park with my friends in high school (mostly for laughs). And your skills look about like mine. Hee!
ReplyDeleteI needed this smile today!
ReplyDeleteI must admit, I have never held , let alone kicked a hacky sack. If I had three I could juggle them......
If I don't get around to it soon, send me an email. :)
Love you, Amy!
Ooh, you are so brave! I am a hacky sack moron, despite the fact I am a *whispers* PE teacher. We have oodles of them at school but I rarely use them bc I lack the hacky sack gene. Hmmm. Maybe I'll just share this video instead.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Sarah on this one. What is a Hacky Sack? But I'm so excited to have seen you for real. It's so strange that I feel I know you but when I saw you on the video you weren't the you I thought you were... ermmm... I know what I mean. I'm off to Google Hacky Sack now. If it's not too scary I may return and grab a button.
ReplyDeleteHi Amy .. well you and Janet are sure having fun with this Hacky Sack thing - I think I'm glad I'm on this side of the pond - slightly worried about what's going on over there?!! Is it catching .......??
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend .. Hilary
You two are hilarious. ou're even better at hacky sack than I am, Amy.
ReplyDeletePs Did you smash anything during the making of the Vlog????
Wow! You've got some mad skilz girl! David Letterman here you come.
