Panic

This is so lame of me. I know it is. But here's the deal:

I have one-and-a-half weeks until I attend my writing conference in LA.

I have a freshly revised and edited contemporary YA manuscript.

Not perfect. Of course not perfect. It has only passed the inspection of one beta-reader whose advice has been incorporated.

Please do not respond to this out of any feelings of guilt or obligation or pity. Only if you really want to.

Would anyone be up to a *quick* read-through? It doesn't even have to be the whole thing. I'll take whatever I can get, writers and non-writers alike. This is last-minute talking here, people. Any kind of feedback would be welcome, even gut-reactions to the first 20 words.

And I will not be offended or hurt or depressed if no one responds. So please don't say yes out of pity. Only if you have a strong desire to do this -- and the time.

Panickedly yours,

Amy

  3. First of all ... YOU'RE PREGNANT?!!!!!! What the?! Second, I would LOVE, LOVE to read it. The sad thing is ... I don't know how quickly I can get it done and get comments to you. :( Unless of course it is about cats who need homes, or little boys who have tree-forts that talk, or fish that lead us to underwater adventures ... then I could read it all day with the kiddos! I miss you! Blessings

  4. I did NOT know you are pregnant!!!! WOW, congratulations!!!! That is awesome! Kate is our unplanned baby- we were in the middle of foster-adopt licensing and Keith had been clipped. Um, oops? But we love her dearly. And you will yours! But I know, I know, I know... it is a bit ACK when it happens. And of course I want to read your work!!! DUH!

  5. I'm very happy to have a read through... I don't read a huge amount of YA fiction, but do intend to change that so I'm more than happy to have a read!!

  10. Amy, I SO wish I could help, but I don't think I'd be able to turn it around as fast as you need. Still, I'd love to read BACK, maybe sometime after you get back:)

  11. I don't write YA, so shouldn't critique it. If there's any advice I could pass on it would be that. Get eyes that read and write your specific genre. I made the mistake of having a YA writer review my MG ms and she really didn't 'get it'..in the end, it was a frustrating waste of time for both of us. Even w/in the YA genre, find another contemporary writer.

just my (unsolicited) two cents :D
