All the Joy

I've been in a blogging holding pattern lately, just posting pictures on Wednesday instead of anything substantial. Is this the new normal? I hope not! But, like I said before, my daughter's gymnastics schedule is kicking my blogging butt.

Probably the answer is to get more organized, and hopefully I'll get there at some point, but right now I'm focusing on SURVIVAL (and finishing this draft of one of my WiPs).

However, I did have a fantastic Christmas. It was so amazing because...

1) My sister came to visit from Hong Kong. She's the same one who has taken the pictures I've been posting the last couple weeks. I hope she had a good time -- I certainly did. It's really hard that she lives so far away, especially because I have to rely on her to visit us most of the time (because transporting a family of seven to Hong Kong is just not in the budget). She's a world traveler and just an amazing person, and my kids had a blast seeing their auntie. At the end of the week, it was really hard to say goodbye, especially when we don't know when we'll see each other again. The happy-sadness of life.

2) My hubby is a high school teacher, so he had two weeks off! ... and since it's winter, there was no backyard work to be done. (Woot!) Though he did put in some time grading, he was home the ENTIRE time. Which was amazing. We haven't really had a stay-at-home-all-together time in a long while. He taught summer school last summer, and then worked on his big backyard project every spare moment, so this vacation was just ... bliss. Sometimes I'd sneak away to my bedroom and shut the door and write, write, write and he took care of everything perfectly. Did my introverted soul good. *happy sigh*

3) We had a white Christmas! Snow. Lots of it! Pouring from the sky. And it just melted a few days ago, so we had it for a good, long time, which is unusual for our area. The kids were actually getting sick of it by the end. Also unusual.

I have a lot to be thankful for! Did you get a holiday break? What was the highlight?

  1. Oh, at first I thought Survival was the name of your WIP! But I agree - it's all we can do sometimes.

Sounds like you had a great holiday. No snow for us, but we had fun taking our little one down to see Nana and Grandpa and seeing a puppet show which was really good. It's based on a picture book, which we bought and is also great!

  2. Gosh, do I understand the need for SURVIVAL! Since October, my family of six has been through two major surgeries, one sudden ambulance ride, a broken arm, & tests for my youngest son's heart pains. Haha...writing has almost been null-in-void. Think God is telling me I need to revamp. :)

But...we did have a nice, relaxing holiday.

  3. There are some perks to the winter. Of course the spring clean up kind of makes up for that. :(

Glad to hear you had a nice relaxing holiday. My highlight was having my hubby cook everyday, which meant more writing time for me. Even with the kids home, I wrote 2 K a day. I'm still shocked at that one.

  4. Oh, what a beautiful white Christmas!
I'm glad you had a good break and time to be with family. That's a world away from blogging in terms of "life priority"--and besides, we've been enjoying the pretty pictures. :)

  6. It is a huge blessing to have hubby giving you writing time! We were both sick on and off over the holidays, but a highlight was going to a concert for our anniversary--this worderful Celtic group called Cherish the Ladies. Also, my daughter has a new BFF and the girls had 4 playdates over winter break, which was wonderful for my lonely only (her BFF is an only also. Perfect!).

  7. Amy, your sister looks so much like you! My sister and I also have the best time together and parting is always hard.

So happy your husband was home the whole time. We also had lots of good family time, but it was also nice to hide in the bedroom :)

Love all that snow! Have a very happy New Year ...

  8. Yay for family time. Amy I love it. And I know what you mean about family being so far away. I have a cousin (and his wife and 6 yr old daughter) who live in Switzerland and the first time I saw them SINCE their daughter was 2 was this summer. Oy.

I have exciting news(see the blaaaag Amy) :) :) Have a great weekend!

  11. So fun you got to have your sister around! That was my favorite part of the holidays . . . spending time with my family (who I don't get to see very often, either). :D
