Anyone, anyone?

Happy Fall!

Life has been so crazy lately. (gymnastics + home school + lots of kids + football-coach hubby + writing = head exploding)

This is when I want to start pouring out apologies for how bad I've been at keeping up with all of you and this blog ... but I will refrain because apologies are boring and you all understand how life can be. (I know you do.)

But I WILL give a couple boring excuses:

BORING EXCUSE NUMBER ONE: I want to visit other blogs, but since Google Reader disappeared, I feel a bit lost. Any advice?

BORING EXCUSE NUMBER TWO: I would also like to blog more, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what to blog about.

I know a couple of you had mentioned that you'd like to hear more details about my publishing process. Do you have any specific questions I could answer? I just turned in my first round of edits a couple weeks ago (phew!). As long as everyone understands that this is all new to me, too, I'd love to be forthcoming about my experience. I just don't know what all of you would LIKE to know, you know?

If you have any questions that I can answer over the next few weeks, leave them in the comments. Thanks!

  1. I've been using Feedly for my new reader. If that helps :) I like it a lot. http://cloud.feedly.com/#welcome

  2. Definitely feedly. It has a similar feel to GR. Unfortunately since GR is now gone, you missed the opportunity to move over all your blogs at one time. At least I don't think you can do that anymore. But yes, check out feedly.

  3. Re #1: I've been using Netvibes, which is close enough.

Re #2: I can't help you. I have the same problems you do (i.e. lack of time and topics, though mostly time).

  4. I was going to say Feedly or Newsify (I think it's called). I just use the Blogger feed or subscribe to things by email).

  5. Hey Amy! I'd like to know about how your experience with a "real" editor compares to the critting experience with us regular crit partner people. And I'm in the same boat- trying to make sure I don't completely lose touch with all my blog friends and hoping everybody understands life is really persistent about using all the available time sometimes:)

  6. Ah, I have the same "What do I blog about??" feeling? My theory is that it's better to blog meaningfully less often than meaninglessly more often--so don't stress about it!
But I think we do all like to know the little inside details about publication, even if it's just the timing of when you have to do what to get the book ready, at this point!
Keep up the good work being an awesome person and don't let your head explode. :)

  7. You already know my answer - everything! :-) You already answered the question I most wanted to know about - and your response totally blew me away - you ROCK! The next thing I am most interested in, which probably won't happen for a while and you may or may not have very much input to the process, is the book cover design. Aren't you just dying to see what your book will look like?

On the blog front, I have decided to expand my blog to other things "created by me." My scrapbooking, knitting, and photography. Hope this will give me more topics and encourage me to start sharing more.

  8. Oh, Amy, as much as I enjoy your blog, I'm even more excited about your upcoming books. So don't stress over the blogging. It's supposed to be fun and not another chore ... you've got a lot on your plate. I'd love to know how you do it all.

  9. Ah, what to blog. This is a question I debate over every week. I love hearing your perspective on everything, so I'm pretty much good even if you talk about cleaning toilets (or bathtubs as the case may be). ;) Good luck with your schedule! Because I totally get it. :D

  11. I was a little lost when Google Reader left, too. I just sign into my own blog and click on My Blogs and scroll down my alphabetical list.

For whatever reason, I'm less likely to run out of blog topics when I schedule my posts way ahead. Like 7-10 weeks. But if I have to blog "right now," my head is empty.

  12. Yup. I am still searching through various blogs as time permits and if I can kick the kiddos off the computer so I can use it, etc.

Ideas to write on - ME - or others like me. I co-authored and self published a MG UF with my now 13 year old son. He was only 10 at the time we wrote the 250 page novel. Our book, Mason Davis and the Rise of the Storm Makers, is available online on Amazon, Create Space, and Barnes and Noble. We'd of course love a shout out, but would also like to hear more storys on how to successfully self publish and self promote.

We also like to see more blogs on the craft of writing - show not telling, etc, or current trends in that area so that we can continue to improve our writng.

    Thanks,

Sunshine and the barefoot boy (AKA Karen and Mitchell)
